So, I really like Planet Fitness so much better than my other gym. The equipment is new and in abundance and its far less creepy. The other gym was to me, a little sketchy. I loved the indoor track but even that got old. Its the kind of place that I would never have used any of the strength training aparati because it was just uncomfortable in the room. It’s borderline that at Planet fitness but I just go and do what I have to, and move along. I’m there with my list of things to do and am not paying attention to anything else – except my swamp-ass.

I am very courteous and wipe the machines down immediately after I use them but I have to say, it’s a little embarrassing when I get up and theres a sweaty ass print on the seat. =/ I try and put something on it so no one sees it while I’m grabbing the spray and paper towel. Friggin’ swamp ass. If I didn’t do a warm up on the treadmill, I wouldn’t be so sweaty and leaving ass prints everywhere, but then I wouldn’t be warmed up so I’ll have to keep covering my tracks so to speak. Perhaps I should wear rubber underwear. haha!

I am not sure what to do about the hunger when I get home from the gym. It’s pretty intense. I want to eat everything. So far, I’ve managed to not blow out my calorie count but whoa. Hunger like a fly covered kid on a paid commercial. Ack.

Then there’s the matter of being jacked up. I get home and I’m wound up tighter than a bulls ass. Today, burned off some energy doing 40 minutes on the wii. Super hula hooping and a half hour on the stepper. I’m finally chilled out enough to sit still and write something down.

Last but not least…my arms and legs are killing me. It feels good though. Not complaining at all. I made it through the whole routine – even the evil shoulder presses. I’d love to say that I can’t wait for Monday but uh… I’m just not a fan of the gym, but I have to so I’ll suck up my weird social issues and get the friggin’ job done. PFit, thank goodness, is as good as it’ll ever get for me.

Day one at Pfit. LoL Good Lord. 20 minute warm up on the treadmill per order of Patrick, the fitness guru, and then right into leg presses.

You know during the very first episodes of every biggest loser season where just about everyone hurls? Well I didn’t. LoL But ONE MORE MOVEMENT and I would have lost lunch. After an hour and a half, I couldn’t even finish the last 10 reps of shoulder presses… I stopped at 6 as my right shoulder turned into something that felt like… well…mud.

I felt my stomach gurgling. I am familiar with that feeling from way back when, when I used to be in semi-shape and exercised like a crazy woman for hours every day. I’d often end up dry heaving in the kitchen sink. That was 20 years ago. I packed up my shit and left before hurling in front of the good patrons of Planet Fitness.

I was nauseous all the way home and when I got home I felt nothing but hunger. I could have eaten the soles of my shoes. The guru said that within 30 minutes of strength training, one should eat some protein. I’m certain he didn’t mean an entire rib eye steak. Well, too bad. I fired up the grill, tossed on a steak and ate the whole friggin thing. I’m still within my calorie range but friggin’ A, I was stahvin’!!

Tomorrow morning I’ll walk and hit the gym again on Friday. I’m on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday cycle for strength training, the rest of the days is cardio.

I hope I can make it through the whole routine on Friday! I kinda wish I had a gym buddy. LoL (mostly, to hold the puke bucket) haha!

Well… as I have mentioned before; I need a mission to keep me motivated. I’ve been without one since the 7 mile mission. My routine has been shot to shit and I’ve been about as motivated as my favorite animal – the sloth. As they say; the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. I do acknowledge my need for a mission, or perhaps the accountability to someone – even unknowing followers on facebook.

I think I might have found that in a Planet Fitness trainer. I toured the place last week and signed up for the $20/month plan. I figured, if anyone wanted to come with me from work or wherever, they could. I met with the trainer the other day and we went over my goals and stuff. Today I went for ‘how to use the machines’ class. I’m sure I could have figured them out but it was nice to tour all the ones I’m going to use and get familiar with them with other people as lost as me.

So… this is my mission on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays

Bench (Chest) Press, Machine
Seated Row, Floor, Machine
Overhead Press, Machine, Seated
Standing Bar Curl, Machine
Triceps Extension
Leg Press
Leg Extension
Leg Curls
Standing Calf Raises
Abdominal Crunches
Back Extension

We get a sheet of paper that we keep track of our activities, sets, reps and weight used. I’ll be doing three sets of ten for two weeks. I will meet with the guy (Patrick) in 2 weeks and he expects all of the columns in my sheet to be filled out. They will be. He’ll then add more weight to my routine and I’ll report to him when that sheet is filled.

Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday is cardio and Sunday is off.

I’m thrilled to have a mission again. We’ll see how it goes! Week two will be a challenge because I’m driving to and from Virginia on my workout days so I’ll have to find the PFit in Salem VA and go in the wee hours before the 12 hour drive home. LoL

*shrug* We’ll see!

I would love to spend more time on this post but I blew the whole morning walking a zillion miles. I set forth a walking challenge for myself and completed it today. I walked the entire Hampton beach “loop.” Starting at my house, to High street, all the way back down to the end of the boulevard and back to my house. It takes way too long for a ‘first thing in the morning’ jaunt but the task is completed and I am kinda proud. I’ll have to come up with a new mission now.

Pretty friggin’ bad ass! =)

I think I’ve figured out what motivates me…or should I say, KEEPS me motivated. I’ve not yet figured out what sets the switch off that makes me (or anyone) suddenly get all hot for fitness and then completely lose interest but I have figured out what keeps me going once that switch has been flipped. Challenges.

Last year, when I was making baby steps around my neighborhood, I would set little challenges for myself. Get around this block. Tomorrow, I’ll go to the next block and so forth. The couch to 5K whim was the same thing – I have to finish. I’ll probably never run again, but I found a task that kept me interested for a few weeks. This time, it’s numbered streets. Hampton beach is long – there’s the main beach where all the hub bub is (where I live) and the lettered streets cross between Ocean Blvd and Ashworth Ave. North beach is more residential and has “the wall” and numbered streets connecting Kings Highway to Ocean Blvd. It’s two miles to the entrance to Kings Highway from my house. I started cutting across 1st street, then 2nd street – each day walking one number higher. Today was 7th street. The end game here is to make it through all of the numbered streets all the way to High St. There are 19 numbered streets so I have a couple weeks to go. The only problem I have with this mission is time. I’m up to 5.33 miles and I don’t know how many miles it’ll be by the end, but I suppose I’ll be walking out my door before 4am if it’s longer than 7 miles. LoL That sounds so ridiculous. Leaving to go walking before 4:00 in the morning AND walking anywhere near 7 miles. I’m not really sure how far it is. I think that’s a good worse case scenario, which would mean I’ll need at least an hour and 45 minutes to walk it. 4:00 should do the trick. *sigh*

So… challenges. Perhaps it’s something that might keep you motivated. It’s worth a try.

So, its been a while since I’ve posted anything meaningful. I’ve been chugging my way through the holidays. I haven’t walked in 2 weeks. Last year I was out there every day…this year its different. There is snow. There wasn’t any last year. Also, I walk much faster, farther and longer than last year so all of that, mixed with snow and ice on the ground just screams injury. Tonight, I joined a gym. This particular establishment has an indoor track so I can get my walk on. It’s 1/12th of a mile, so I’ll be walking around 36 times or so. I can’t wait. I’m gonna hit it tomorrow after work with 2 friends who also joined. So, this is a new and exciting thing. I can’t wait to get moving and shed the rest of this damn weight. I’ve been maintaining pretty well but there’s still work to be done if I’m gonna hit my 100lb goal by march 12th. I can’t wait to critique my new gym. Stay tuned!

ps…sorry this post seems a little choppy. Im using the tablet. I dont think Im gonna do that again. Sometimes, ya just need a real keyboard.

Today was a very short walk. I always walk the exact same route; I know, I know… the safety people are cringing but I do it so often that I can just tell if I’ve walked faster by the amount of gasping for air I’m doing at particular locations. I know exactly where mile one, two and three will be. Today, I tried to mix it up. Instead of doing my usual clockwise loop, I tried going the opposite way. First, I forgot to put on my tracker. That always screws me up. I lose interest fast when I’m not being timed. Then, I picked the wrong music track and it was slower than usual, so when I went to change it, my phone slipped out of my fingerless gloved hands and fell on the ground. The case broke apart, and I had to gather them up before moving alone.

I move on and then notice a quarter of a mile later that I once again, forgot to put on my tracker. I put on some bouncing music and just plain old walked (vs. flailing) to my mile marker. I don’t think I even broke anything resembling a sweat. As I’m jammin’ along to ‘Groove is in the heart’ I have this weird compulsion to dance walk. It’s bad enough that I have become one of the people I used to poke fun at, with all the arm swinging, action packed walking maneuvers but I wonder what kind of rubbernecking would ensue if I started walking, spinning and gettin’ low whilst walking in the morning. I never did give into my compulsion and almost feel bad about it now. I think it’d be so much fun – especially with a group of people. Perhaps I’ll start a Hampton Beach, dance walk movement.
